Where it came from
The Kasuga Bureau series, authored and illustrated by Kazuhisa Hori, emerged during a period of experimentation within seinen manga, focusing on bureaucratic satire framed through a surreal or historical lens. The work is characterized by Hori's distinct linework, which balances architectural precision with the mundane absurdities of its administrative protagonists, reflecting a deliberate effort to critique institutional inertia through episodic storytelling.
Upon its initial publication, the series garnered interest for its thematic departure from conventional action-oriented titles of the era. Hori's approach to character design was intended to emphasize the anonymity of the worker within a sprawling system, an aesthetic choice that resonated with readers interested in minimalist narrative structures. While it remains a niche entry in the landscape of mid-tier manga, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of workplace-centric fiction for its dry wit and idiosyncratic world-building.
