Kill Gyaru

Kill Gyaru, created by the mangaka Katsuragi Genki, emerged within the specific subculture of adult-oriented manga that satirized and deconstructed the hyper-feminine Gyaru aesthetic prevalent in early 21st-century Japan. The work functions as a dark, stylized exploration of this fashion trend, blending intense visual detail with a narrative tone that oscillates between social commentary and exploitation tropes common to the genre.

The design of the series centers on Katsuragi’s distinct artistic style, which emphasizes exaggerated physical proportions and a meticulous approach to the intricate fashion elements associated with Gyaru subculture, such as heavy makeup, bleached hair, and flamboyant accessories. Upon its release, the series found a niche audience among readers of seinen and adult manga, appreciated primarily for the technical precision of the illustrations and its unapologetic engagement with its source material's provocative themes.
