Where it came from
Kimi ga Shinu made Koi o Shitai, or 'I Want to Love Until You Die,' is a manga series written and illustrated by Aono Nachi that began serialization in 2018 within the pages of Kadokawa's Dengeki Daioh magazine. Set in a war-torn world where school-aged girls are trained as specialized combatants, the narrative focuses on the growing bond between two students, Tsukishiro and Ohara, as they grapple with their predetermined fates in an institution that views them primarily as disposable military assets.
Aono Nachi utilizes a delicate, emotive art style that contrasts sharply with the grim, militaristic atmosphere of the setting. The series is recognized for its introspective approach to the yuri genre, favoring a slow-burn emotional development that explores themes of mortality, agency, and the search for personal meaning amidst systemic conflict. Since its debut, it has been praised by readers for its evocative character work and its poignant handling of the ephemeral nature of relationships under the shadow of war.
