Kimi wa Pet was serialized in the Japanese josei manga magazine Kiss starting in the year 2000. Created by Yayoi Ogawa, the series emerged during a period when manga aimed at adult women began to more frequently challenge traditional domestic expectations and gender roles. The story follows a successful but emotionally guarded newspaper journalist who decides to take in a younger, injured man as a pet, a narrative conceit that allowed Ogawa to explore complex power dynamics, professional pressures, and the nature of companionship in urban Japan.
