Kingdom

Kingdom is a historical manga series written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump in 2006. The series is set during the Warring States period in ancient China, specifically focusing on the story of the young slave boy Xin and his ambition to become the greatest general under the heavens during the rise of the state of Qin's King Zheng. Hara drew inspiration for the epic scope of the narrative from the classical historiography of the era, particularly the Records of the Grand Historian.

The aesthetic of the series is characterized by its gritty depiction of large-scale battlefield tactics and its focus on the philosophical development of its lead characters amidst brutal geopolitical shifts. Since its inception, the work has been widely recognized for its intense artistic style and detailed characterization. It has received significant critical acclaim and commercial success in Japan, including the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and remains one of the longest-running and most influential seinen manga series in the current publication landscape.
