Where it came from
Kiss kara Hajimeyou, authored by Tomomi Nagae, is a shojo manga volume that emerged during a period of robust output for the genre in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Published by Shogakukan, it follows the conventions of teen romance storytelling prevalent in publications like Sho-Comi, focusing on the emotional development and interpersonal dynamics of its young protagonists. The series is representative of the era's focus on character-driven narratives that emphasize budding romance and the complexities of high school relationships.
The artistic direction by Nagae reflects the aesthetic standards of the time, characterized by expressive character designs and detailed page layouts intended to convey nuanced emotional states. As part of a saturated market, the work was received by audiences as a quintessential example of the lighthearted yet earnest shojo style. While the series remains a localized entry within the broader landscape of Japanese romance manga, it serves as an example of the industry's commitment to exploring youthful idealism through the serialized format.
