Koipon! ~Inochi Mijikashi Koi seyo Ponpoko~

Koipon! ~Inochi Mijikashi Koi seyo Ponpoko~ is a manga series created by Kisaragi Sono. It emerged from the landscape of lighthearted, romantic comedy manga that proliferated in Japanese seinen and shonen anthologies during the early 2000s. The title draws its inspiration from the classic Japanese phrase 'inochi mijikashi koi seyo otome'—meaning life is short, fall in love, maiden—repurposing the sentiment into a whimsical tale centered on the antics of tanuki, traditional Japanese raccoon dogs.

The artistic style reflects the character-focused aesthetic of the era, favoring expressive, rounded character designs that emphasize humor and charm. Kisaragi Sono aimed to blend folklore elements with contemporary romantic tropes to create a accessible, episodic narrative. While the series remains a niche entry within the broader spectrum of Kisaragi's bibliography, it is recognized by collectors as a representative example of the character-driven comedy genre prevalent in that period of the industry.
