Where it came from
Konyaku Haki Sare Suterare Rurashii node, Gunjin Reijou Hajimemasu, known in English as Since I Was Exchanged and Abandoned, I'll Become a Military Lady, originated as a light novel series before being adapted into a manga illustrated by Yuki. Published under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, the story emerged from the popular Japanese web novel trend of subverting the 'villainess' trope, shifting the focus from courtly intrigue to the protagonist’s transition into a career as a soldier.
The character design and visual direction by Yuki emphasize a contrast between the protagonist's aristocratic origins and her newfound pragmatic, military aesthetic. The series has been received as a notable entry in the 'rejection-to-empowerment' subgenre, where the narrative prioritizes themes of self-actualization and tactical competency over traditional romance, securing a dedicated following within the manga readership for its blend of fantasy world-building and character-driven progression.
