Koukaku no Regios

Koukaku no Regios, known in English as Chrome Shelled Regios, originated as a light novel series written by Amagi Shuusuke and illustrated by Miyuu. First published in 2006 by Fujimi Shobo under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, the series emerged during a peak era for high-concept light novels, quickly gaining a reputation for its complex world-building. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity resides in massive, mobile self-contained cities called Regios to escape contamination by mutated beasts known as filth monsters.

The series' design and aesthetic, particularly the character portraits and urban landscapes, were heavily shaped by Miyuu's detailed illustrations, which aimed to convey both the technical grit of the city-states and the high-fantasy nature of the combat arts practiced by the residents. Upon its release, the work was noted for its departure from standard school-life tropes, leaning instead into military sci-fi and strategic conflict, which helped it secure a dedicated following and led to its subsequent adaptation into manga and television anime.
