Lady Lizard

Lady Lizard, a dark and psychological manga series, originated from the pen of Koga Shinichi, a foundational figure in the Japanese horror manga genre. Emerging from the mid-to-late 20th-century tradition of gekiga, which favored intense, mature, and often unsettling storytelling, the series reflects Koga's signature style of blending supernatural tropes with visceral human anxieties. The work was crafted to push the boundaries of conventional horror, focusing on themes of transformation and the macabre through a distinctive, stark artistic lens.

Koga Shinichi is widely respected for his role in defining the visual language of Japanese horror comics, particularly his influence on the aesthetic of the 1970s and 80s horror scene. In designing the central figure of Lady Lizard, Koga aimed to evoke a sense of uncanny unease rather than simple shock. Upon its release, the series was received as a gritty contribution to the pulp horror market, finding an enduring, if specialized, audience among readers who appreciated Koga's bleak and atmospheric approach to the grotesque.
