Les Cahiers bourbonnais et du centre

Les Cahiers bourbonnais et du centre emerged in the mid-20th century as a scholarly and regionalist periodical dedicated to the history, geography, and cultural heritage of the Bourbonnais region and the surrounding heartland of France. Established during a period when local history societies sought to preserve the specific traditions and folklore of the provinces, the publication provided a forum for historians, archaeologists, and enthusiasts to document the architectural and archival wealth of the region. It remains a significant reference point for those studying the genealogical and social shifts of central France.

The editorial direction of the publication was characterized by a meticulous, academic approach, emphasizing rigorous archival research and the preservation of disappearing local customs. Designed with a sober, traditional layout consistent with provincial intellectual journals of the era, the series focused on accessibility for scholars and residents alike. While it never sought mass-market appeal, it was well-received by regional history circles and institutional libraries for its dedication to local documentation and its role in maintaining a distinct cultural identity against the tide of centralization.
