Where it came from
Let's La Gon, created by the legendary manga artist Akatsuka Fujio, debuted in the late 1960s during a period when the artist was cementing his status as a pioneer of gag manga. The work emerged from the vibrant, chaotic creative culture of the post-war Japanese comic scene, characterized by surreal humor and a rejection of traditional narrative constraints.
The design and artistic direction reflect Akatsuka's signature style, which prioritized dynamic, energetic lines and nonsensical visual gags over rigid realism. Intended to evoke laughter through absurdity and social satire, the series was received as a definitive example of the gag manga genre, helping to define the comedic sensibilities of an entire generation of readers in Japan.
