Where it came from
Lies of the Sheriff Evans: Dead or Love, written and illustrated by Kuriyama Mizuki, debuted in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2018. The series was conceptualized as a comedic western that subverts the tropes of the genre by focusing on the protagonist, Evans, who struggles to balance his reputation as a legendary, stoic gunslinger with his internal desire for romance and social validation.
The manga is characterized by its dynamic action sequences juxtaposed with slapstick humor and detailed, expressive character designs. It was well-received by readers for its lighthearted tone and creative take on the Wild West setting, ultimately spanning several volumes that follow Evans's evolving, often clumsy attempts to win over the townspeople and potential love interests while maintaining his heroic facade.
