Where it came from
Love Live! School Idol Project originated as a multimedia project launched in 2010 through a collaboration between Dengeki G's Magazine, the music label Lantis, and the animation studio Sunrise. The concept focused on the story of nine schoolgirls who become idol stars to save their high school from closing. The franchise was designed to integrate reader participation, allowing fans to vote on various elements of the characters and music, which fostered a highly engaged community from its inception.
The manga adaptation, written by Sakurako Kimino and illustrated by Arumi Tokita, was serialized in Dengeki G's Magazine starting in 2012. It serves as a complementary narrative to the anime and light novel versions, offering a unique perspective on the journey of the school idol group μ's. While the franchise has seen various iterations across media, the core visual and thematic design emphasizes themes of friendship, perseverance, and the pursuit of dreams, which has led to its significant cultural impact in Japan and abroad.
