Manuscripts in the Library of the Hispanic Society of America

The Manuscripts in the Library of the Hispanic Society of America series serves as a foundational cataloging project documenting the extensive collection assembled by Archer M. Huntington. Established in 1904, the Hispanic Society of America in New York City was designed to preserve and promote the study of the art and literature of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. These volumes were produced to grant scholars and the public systematic access to the institution's vast, specialized holdings of medieval and early modern manuscripts.

The editorial oversight for this series reflects the institution's commitment to rigorous bibliographic standards. By curating and describing these primary documents, the Hispanic Society sought to provide essential context for the development of Spanish and Portuguese intellectual history. The series is regarded as a vital reference tool, appreciated by researchers for its detailed entries that bridge the gap between private collection and public academic resource.
