Matsuri Kenbunroku

Matsuri Kenbunroku, or the Record of Festival Observations, is a specialized volume authored by Minoru Ogawa that serves as an ethnological exploration of traditional Japanese festivals. Emerging from an era of growing academic and public interest in vanishing local folk customs, the work functions as both a travelogue and a scholarly catalog. It captures the spirit of these regional events through meticulous documentation of the sights, sounds, and rituals that characterize Japanese matsuri.

The design and content of the volume reflect Ogawa's focus on preserving cultural heritage through detailed narrative and observation. By weaving personal experience with historical context, the author sought to provide a comprehensive look at the sensory landscape of rural festivals. The work was received as a valuable contribution to regional studies, appreciated for its dedication to detail and its role in archiving traditions that are increasingly vulnerable to the pressures of modern urbanization.
