Where it came from
Megalo Box: Shukumei no Souken is a manga adaptation that serves as a companion to the acclaimed Megalo Box anime series, which was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the classic boxing manga Ashita no Joe. Released to provide further depth to the gritty, futuristic world where fighters augment their bodies with mechanical gear, the narrative captures the desperate atmosphere and high-stakes tension inherent to the franchise's unique take on the sport.
The adaptation was illustrated by Chikara Sakuma, who was tasked with translating the kinetic, shadow-heavy aesthetic of the anime onto the page. Sakuma sought to maintain the visceral impact of the hand-to-hand combat while emphasizing the character-driven drama that defines the series. The work was generally well-received by fans of the anime for its faithful representation of the show's dark, industrial tone and its commitment to the technical precision of the boxing sequences.
