Memorie della Società geografica italiana

The Memorie della Società geografica italiana serves as the scholarly publication series of the Società Geografica Italiana, an institution established in Rome in 1867. The series was designed to act as a permanent repository for advanced geographical research, exploration reports, and cartographic analysis, providing a formal academic outlet for the society’s mission to promote geographical knowledge and Italy’s scientific presence on the international stage during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The publication was shaped by the evolving interests of the society, which focused on topography, ethnography, and geopolitical studies. Contributors often included esteemed explorers, diplomats, and academicians who were tasked with documenting expeditions and regional surveys. The aesthetic and organizational approach was rooted in classical academic publishing, emphasizing rigorous data presentation and detailed illustrative maps, which earned the series respect among the European scientific community as a vital chronicle of geographical discovery.
