Miss Abbott and the Doctor

Miss Abbott and the Doctor originated as a webcomic created by the Spanish illustrator Maripaz Villar, first appearing on the platform WEBTOON. The series emerged from a growing trend of digital-first romance comics that prioritize character-driven narratives and soft, atmospheric aesthetics. Villar aimed to craft a slow-burn relationship story that navigated the complexities of Victorian-era social norms through a modern lens, emphasizing the intellectual and emotional chemistry between the titular characters.

The series gained significant traction for its gentle pacing and detailed, painterly artwork, which stood out in a medium often dominated by sharper, more traditional manga styles. Critics and readers frequently praised the work for its warm color palette and the nuanced development of the protagonists' personal growth. Its transition into print format allowed the story to find a wider audience among readers of romantic historical fiction, solidifying its reputation as a celebrated title within the web-original graphic novel genre.
