Where it came from
Money is Crying, or 'Okane ga Naiteiru', is a seinen manga series authored by Kunitomo Yasuyuki. Debuting during the late 1980s, the work reflects the intense social and economic anxieties of Japan's bubble economy era. The narrative serves as a critical exploration of the corrupting influence of wealth, focusing on characters caught in the volatile intersection of greed, debt, and the unforgiving nature of the financial world.
Kunitomo Yasuyuki was well-regarded for his gritty, realistic aesthetic and his ability to craft suspenseful tales centered on economic struggle and moral ambiguity. His design approach prioritized tension and a stark, mature visual style that resonated with an audience dealing with the pressures of contemporary urban life. While often categorized as niche, the series is recognized by collectors as a distinct entry in the genre of financial thrillers, notable for its unflinching look at the darker side of Japanese societal aspirations.
