Where it came from
Monster Master was created by Takagi Ryou and originally serialized in the Japanese magazine Comic BomBom during the late 1990s. The series emerged during a period of immense popularity for monster-collecting media in Japan, drawing clear inspiration from the design sensibilities of the era's prominent monster-battling franchises while carving out its own niche within the Shonen adventure genre.
The narrative follows a protagonist who captures and trains creatures, utilizing a distinct illustrative style characterized by dynamic, action-oriented character designs. Takagi Ryou focused on creating a world where the bond between the lead and his monsters was central to the plot. While it remained a cult title within the broader landscape of late-90s manga, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of the Comic BomBom catalog as a notable example of the competitive creature-battle aesthetic that defined that decade.
