Monthly Packet of Evening Readings for Members of the English Church (earlier "for Younger Members of the English Church")

The Monthly Packet of Evening Readings for Members of the English Church was established in 1851 by the High Church author Charlotte Mary Yonge and her mentor, John Keble. Conceived during the height of the Oxford Movement, the periodical was designed to provide morally uplifting, educational, and religious literature for young women. It occupied a significant space in Victorian intellectual life, balancing devotional content with historical essays, travelogues, and serialized fiction that promoted Anglican values.

Charlotte M. Yonge served as the magazine's editor for nearly half a century, utilizing the publication as a platform to cultivate the literary tastes of her readers. The design and editorial direction reflected the conservative, Tractarian ideals of the era, focusing on the formation of character through domestic duty and theological study. While initially aimed at younger readers, the magazine gradually matured alongside its audience, remaining a staple of Victorian household reading until its conclusion in the late 19th century.
