My Boyfriend in Orange

My Boyfriend in Orange, known in Japan as Moe Kare wa Orange-iro, is a shojo manga series created by mangaka Non Tamashima. Serialized in Kodansha's Dessert magazine beginning in 2016, the story follows Moe Sasaki, a lonely high school student who finds herself drawn to Kyosuke Ebihara, a dedicated and stoic firefighter. The narrative explores themes of personal growth, the transition into adulthood, and the unique challenges faced by the families of first responders.

Tamashima’s design approach focuses on the gentle, emotional development of her protagonists, utilizing the classic shojo aesthetic of expressive character designs and soft, atmosphere-driven paneling. The series was well-received by readers for its sincere portrayal of the firefighting profession and the romantic tension between the leads, eventually leading to a live-action film adaptation released in 2022. The English publication by Kodansha USA has helped bring Tamashima’s work to a broader international audience, maintaining the charm of the original Japanese release.
