My First Evil

My First Evil, authored by Fujiki Shun, emerged as a notable entry within the psychological horror manga genre during the early 2000s. The series was crafted to explore the unsettling intersection of childhood innocence and inherent darkness, a recurring theme in Shun's bibliography. The narrative design prioritizes a minimalist aesthetic, using stark, high-contrast character illustrations to heighten the sense of psychological unease as the protagonists navigate increasingly moral compromises.

Upon its release, the volume garnered attention for its unconventional approach to the coming-of-age subgenre, intentionally eschewing traditional tropes of redemption or moral clarity. Critics at the time focused on the author’s deliberate choice to leave the protagonist's motivations ambiguous, which invited readers to project their own interpretations onto the story's development. While it remained a niche title, it is frequently cited by collectors for its influential contribution to the 'dark child' narrative style prevalent in mid-2000s Japanese horror media.
