My ID Is Gangnam Beauty

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty was originally serialized as a webtoon on Naver Webtoon starting in 2016. Created by the artist Maenggi Ki, the narrative explores the societal pressures of beauty standards in South Korea, specifically focusing on the protagonist's experience with plastic surgery and the subsequent judgment she faces upon entering university. The work gained significant traction for its grounded, often uncomfortable look at lookism and the psychological toll of cosmetic transformation.

The character design and visual style prioritize a clean, accessible aesthetic that mirrors the tone of contemporary youth dramas. Maenggi Ki’s approach to the subject matter was intended to spark dialogue rather than merely entertain, leading to its widespread recognition as a social commentary. Due to its popularity and thematic depth, the webtoon was eventually collected into physical volumes and adapted into a high-profile television series in 2018, which further cemented its place in popular culture.
