Where it came from
Mystery to Iunakare, serialized as 'Do Not Say Mystery', began its run in Shogakukan's Monthly Flowers magazine in 2017. Created by the acclaimed mangaka Tamura Yumi, the series marked a departure from her typical high-fantasy works, focusing instead on a grounded, psychological mystery procedural. The narrative follows Totono Kuno, a university student with an uncanny knack for deductive reasoning and a tendency to lecture those around him, as he inadvertently becomes entangled in various criminal investigations.
Tamura designed the protagonist to subvert traditional detective tropes, replacing the abrasive or hyper-masculine investigator archetype with a socially awkward, thoughtful character who emphasizes empathy and sociological observation. The series has been widely praised for its philosophical depth and intricate plotting, eventually receiving the Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōjo category. Its success led to a successful live-action adaptation, cementing its status as a staple of contemporary mystery manga.
