Naoki Urasawa präsentiert: Monster: Flucht

Monster: Flucht represents a significant entry in the broader Monster saga, an acclaimed psychological thriller manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. Originally serialized in Japan during the late 1990s and early 2000s, the story follows Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese surgeon living in Germany, whose life unravels after he saves the life of a young boy who later grows up to be a sociopathic serial killer. This specific volume serves as a localized German-language release, reflecting the series' deep narrative and thematic ties to German history, geography, and culture.

Naoki Urasawa designed the series to be a complex, slow-burning suspense drama that prioritized character development and moral ambiguity over typical action tropes. Influenced by Western cinema and literature, he sought to create a cinematic reading experience characterized by realistic anatomy and meticulous environmental detail. The series was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning multiple prestigious accolades including the Shogakukan Manga Award and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and is frequently cited as a masterpiece of the medium for its sophisticated pacing and exploration of the nature of evil.
