Natsuki Crisis

Natsuki Crisis was created by Hirohisa Tsuruta and serialized in the seinen manga magazine Business Jump starting in the late 1980s. The series centers on Natsuki Hana, a high school student and martial artist who frequently finds herself embroiled in conflicts involving underground fighting rings and school rivalries. It emerged during a period when the 'fighting girl' archetype was gaining significant traction in manga, blending traditional shonen tournament tropes with the workplace-oriented, slightly more mature sensibilities of the seinen demographic.

Tsuruta's design style for the series is defined by its clean, kinetic linework and a focus on realistic, grounded combat techniques contrasted against the hyperbolic school life settings. The work is widely regarded for its detailed choreography and the development of its titular character, who navigates the complexities of teenage independence alongside her physical prowess. Its reception was strong enough to warrant a direct-to-video anime adaptation in the mid-1990s, cementing its status as a notable example of 1990s martial arts action manga.
