Necrological Report Presented to the Alumni Association of Princeton Theological Seminary at Its Annual Meeting ...

The Necrological Reports were published annually by the Princeton Theological Seminary Alumni Association beginning in the late 19th century. These volumes served as a formal institutional record, documenting the lives, ministries, and passing of seminary graduates to ensure that the intellectual and spiritual contributions of the alumni were preserved within the community's history.

The design of these reports was austere and strictly functional, reflecting the traditional Presbyterian emphasis on orderly record-keeping and academic rigor. Compiled by secretaries of the Alumni Association, the volumes functioned as vital archival resources, providing researchers and historians with biographical details that were often not documented elsewhere. They remain respected primary sources for scholars studying American religious history and the professionalization of the 19th-century clergy.
