Where it came from
Nekogoze is an evocative manga series created by Ugawa Hiroki, emerging from a tradition of idiosyncratic, atmospheric storytelling that often explores the intersection of traditional Japanese folklore and contemporary surrealism. The work is characterized by Hiroki's distinctively fluid, minimalist art style, which emphasizes mood and character expression over dense background detail, aiming to draw the reader into a quiet, slightly uncanny domestic space.
Upon its release, the volume was noted by critics for its understated narrative pacing and the author's ability to imbue mundane interactions with a sense of lingering mystery. It is widely regarded as a significant entry in Hiroki's bibliography, reflecting a concerted effort to push the boundaries of episodic manga by prioritizing atmosphere and reader interpretation, ultimately earning a dedicated, albeit niche, following among fans of avant-garde and experimental graphic narratives.
