New X-Men Modern Era Epic Collection: E Is for Extinction

Originally published as a series of individual issues beginning in 2001, Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run represented a radical shift for the franchise. Moving away from the bright spandex of the 1990s, Morrison introduced a grounded, leather-clad aesthetic and focused on the school setting as a hub for mutant culture. The 'E Is for Extinction' arc introduced the villain Cassandra Nova and famously decimated the mutant population of Genosha, setting a darker, more philosophical tone for the series that redefined the X-Men for the 21st century.

This Modern Era Epic Collection gathers the initial chapters of Morrison’s tenure, featuring artwork by Frank Quitely, Ethan Van Sciver, and Igor Kordey. Quitely’s design work was particularly influential, favoring naturalistic anatomy and utilitarian costumes that moved the characters away from traditional superhero tropes. Upon its release, the run was divisive for its subversion of long-standing comic book conventions, yet it has since been widely canonized as one of the most significant and transformative periods in X-Men history.
