News: Österreichs grösstes Nachrichtenmagazin

News was founded in 1992 by Wolfgang Fellner and Helmuth Fellner as the first major weekly news magazine in Austria to adopt the color-focused, high-gloss format of Western European and American lifestyle weeklies. It emerged during a period of significant expansion for the Austrian media landscape, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional hard-news journalism and the burgeoning demand for celebrity-focused human-interest stories and political analysis. The publication quickly positioned itself as a market leader, capturing a broad demographic by balancing investigations with social coverage.

The design of the magazine was heavily influenced by international trends in magazine layout, prioritizing large-scale photography, punchy headlines, and a modern aesthetic that departed from the text-heavy approach of long-standing Austrian daily newspapers. Throughout its history, the magazine has maintained a reputation for a provocative editorial style that often stirs public debate. While its approach has faced criticism from more conservative media outlets for its sensationalist tendencies, it remains one of the most widely read and influential magazines in the region.
