Where it came from
Nijiiro Secret is a shojo manga series created by the artist Rakuji Tarahi, first serialized in the early 2000s. The work emerged during a period of experimentation within the shojo genre, characterized by a focus on intricate character dynamics and soft, emotive artistic sensibilities. Tarahi sought to blend traditional romantic tropes with a distinct, airy visual style that prioritized the internal emotional states of the protagonists over dramatic plot mechanics.
The series is noted for its delicate linework and focus on the atmospheric quality of its setting, which resonated with readers seeking nuanced, character-driven storytelling. Upon its release, it was received as a modest but earnest contribution to the genre, praised for its cohesive aesthetic and the consistent, gentle tone maintained by Tarahi throughout the volume's progression.
