OBAKE OVER CARE

Obake Over Care, authored by Azuma Kohji, is a distinct entry within the landscape of independent manga and character-driven illustration series. Emerging from the specific aesthetic tradition of Japanese surrealist horror and dark fantasy, the work functions as both a narrative volume and a visual exploration of supernatural motifs. It reflects a design philosophy that blends grotesque imagery with the minimalist, clean linework characteristic of the author's broader artistic output, prioritizing atmosphere over dense exposition.

The series was conceived as an experimental departure from mainstream serialization, allowing Kohji to explore themes of transience and the uncanny through a collection of loosely connected vignettes. Upon its release, it was noted primarily within niche manga circles for its unsettling visuals and stylistic cohesion. Critics have often highlighted the author's ability to imbue inanimate objects and entities with a sense of melancholic personality, a hallmark of Kohji’s work that distinguishes this volume from more conventional horror manga.
