Ojou-sama no Untenshu

Ojou-sama no Untenshu is a romance manga series written and illustrated by Keiko Ishihara, first serialized in the late 1990s within the pages of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine. The work emerged during a period when the shojo genre was exploring dynamic class-conscious romantic tensions, centering on the relationship between a high-born young woman and her dedicated personal chauffeur. The series reflects the hallmark aesthetic of Ishihara’s work from that era, characterized by elegant character designs and a focus on the emotional nuances of domestic, power-imbalanced dynamics.

Ishihara is recognized for her ability to blend traditional romantic tropes with lighthearted, character-driven comedy. In Ojou-sama no Untenshu, the focus remains on the developing intimacy between the protagonists, with the driver figure serving as both a guardian and a catalyst for the protagonist's personal growth. Upon its release, the series was received as a charming addition to the shojo catalog, appreciated by readers for its clean, expressive line work and its exploration of the barriers between social spheres.
