Omake no Kobayashi-kun

Omake no Kobayashi-kun was written and illustrated by Morio Masami and first serialized in the late 1990s. The series emerged from the Japanese shojo manga tradition, centered on a high school student named Kobayashi who finds himself frequently caught in the bizarre and often comedic dynamics of his classmates. Masami’s work is characterized by a whimsical, lighthearted approach to character interaction, focusing on the social mishaps and humorous misunderstandings common in high school life.

The design and tone of the series reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of late 90s manga, emphasizing expressive character silhouettes and episodic storytelling. As a comedy-focused shojo title, it was well-received by readers looking for low-stakes, humorous diversions from more melodramatic series of the era. The manga maintains a dedicated following among collectors of late-90s Japanese comics who appreciate Masami’s specific style of gag-based narrative construction.
