Onna no Mado

Onna no Mado, translated as Women's Window, is a long-running autobiographical manga series by Risa Itou that first appeared in the late 1990s. The work is deeply rooted in the context of contemporary Japanese working life, offering a humorous and often candid perspective on the daily habits, insecurities, and social observations of urban women. Itou developed the series as a collection of episodic vignettes that capture the mundane yet relatable tensions of adulthood.

The design and artistic style of the volumes reflect Itou’s signature minimalist aesthetic, utilizing clean, expressive linework that prioritizes observational comedy and character dynamics over intricate detail. The series gained significant cultural traction for its honest portrayal of single life and office culture, earning it the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for Short Work. It remains a hallmark of the slice-of-life genre, praised by critics for its ability to distill complex social commentary into approachable, lighthearted panels.
