Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru, often abbreviated as Oreshura, began as a light novel series written by Yuuji Yuuji with illustrations by Ruroo. First published in 2011, the series emerged during a period of high popularity for the romantic comedy genre in Japanese light novels, specifically those featuring complex social dynamics and 'childhood friend' tropes. The narrative follows Eita Kidou, a high-achieving student who finds himself forced into a fake relationship with the popular Masuzu Natsukawa, only to have his childhood friend Chiwa Harusaki intervene, sparking a competitive romantic landscape.

The character designs by Ruroo were central to the series' visual appeal, leaning into the vibrant, emotive aesthetic common to the era's light novel adaptations. The series gained enough traction to spawn manga adaptations and a television anime series in 2013, which helped solidify its position within the competitive landscape of the seinen and shonen-oriented romantic comedy market. Reception of the series has been largely defined by its humorous take on the 'harem' subgenre, appreciated by fans for its self-aware dialogue and stylized character tropes.
