Where it came from
Otogi no Machi no Rena is a manga series created by Hattori Mitsuru, originally serialized in the Japanese publication Young Gangan starting in 2005. The story follows a girl who discovers a hidden, magical world within her town, blending themes of fantasy with the slice-of-life genre that characterized much of the magazine's output during the mid-2000s.
Hattori Mitsuru, who later gained wider recognition for works like Sankarea, utilized a soft and approachable artistic style for this series to emphasize the whimsical nature of the protagonist's journey. While it remains a niche title in the broader manga landscape, it is often noted by collectors as a representative example of the magazine's effort to court a demographic interested in atmospheric, character-driven fantasy during that era.
