Oumagadoki Doubutsuen, often known in English as Oumagadoki Zoo, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2010 to 2011. Created by Kohei Horikoshi as his first major series, the manga follows a young woman who begins working at a mysterious, chaotic zoo where the animals possess the ability to speak. The series served as a foundational project for Horikoshi, allowing him to experiment with the dynamic character designs and supernatural themes that would later become synonymous with his global success on My Hero Academia.

The series is noted for its distinctive visual style, characterized by a blend of grotesque creature designs and expressive, emotive human characters. While the manga was cancelled after five volumes due to lower polling rankings, it maintained a dedicated cult following. Critics have retrospectively viewed the work as a stylistic precursor to Horikoshi’s later career, highlighting his early mastery of pacing and the whimsical, often dark aesthetic that defined his initial foray into professional serialized manga.
