Where it came from
Our Earthquake Story ~Heart Regeneration Workers~ was authored by Kimidori Inoue in the wake of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The work serves as a testimonial-based manga, documenting the real-life experiences of counselors and social workers who provided psychological support to survivors in the devastated regions. Inoue utilized a sparse, documentary-style illustrative approach to maintain focus on the gravity and emotional weight of the subjects' testimonies.
The collection emerged from a desire to bridge the gap between abstract news reports of the disaster and the lived reality of those grappling with trauma. By highlighting the 'heart regeneration' aspect of the recovery process, the manga aims to humanize the long-term psychological impact of natural disasters. It was received as a sensitive piece of reportage manga, praised for its restraint and its emphasis on the quiet, essential labor of those working within affected communities.
