Paul Cullen and His Contemporaries: With Their Letters from 1820-1902

Paul Cullen and His Contemporaries: With Their Letters from 1820-1902 is a multi-volume historical project compiled and edited by the Irish priest and historian Peadar MacSuibhne. Published throughout the mid-20th century, the series serves as a massive documentary undertaking intended to preserve the personal and professional correspondence of Cardinal Paul Cullen, the 19th-century Archbishop of Dublin who exerted significant influence over the Irish Catholic Church and political landscape of his era.

MacSuibhne’s work is characterized by its exhaustive transcription of primary source material, providing scholars with a window into the ecclesiastical and nationalist debates of the period. Designed as a foundational reference for historians, the volumes are noted for their academic rigor rather than aesthetic embellishment. While the series remains a niche resource, it is widely regarded by archivists and Irish historians as an indispensable primary record of the intellectual and social currents that shaped 19th-century Ireland.
