Where it came from
Petit Eva: Our Expedition Club is a charming spin-off derived from the iconic Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. Produced by Studio khara, the series reimagines the complex, often somber characters of the original anime as miniature, chibi-style caricatures attending a fictionalized school setting. This project was developed as a lighthearted counterpoint to the intensity of the main series, aiming to make the franchise accessible to a wider, younger audience while providing comedic relief for established fans.
The aesthetic design of this volume leans into the 'super-deformed' art style popular in Japanese media, characterized by oversized heads and simplified features. Created to emphasize humor and camaraderie, the illustrations were carefully crafted to retain recognizable personality traits of Rei, Asuka, and Shinji despite the drastic change in tone. Upon its release, it was received as a whimsical exploration of the Eva universe, serving as a testament to the brand's versatility and its ability to reinvent itself through diverse artistic interpretations.
