Psycho-Pass - Kanshikan Kougami Shinya

Psycho-Pass: Kanshikan Kougami Shinya is a manga prequel series that serves as an expansion of the acclaimed cyberpunk franchise. Written by Midori Gotou and illustrated by Natsuo Sai, the series was commissioned to provide a deeper exploration of Shinya Kougami's early career as an inspector for the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Department. It functions as a character study, detailing the events that shaped Kougami's investigative philosophy and his eventual disillusionment with the Sibyl System.

The narrative tone adopts the dark, gritty aesthetic characteristic of the anime, focusing on the psychological toll of enforcing law in a near-future Japan where human morality is quantified. Natsuo Sai's character designs maintain stylistic consistency with the original anime series while introducing new supporting cast members who contextualize Kougami's trajectory. Upon its serialization, the work was received as a essential supplementary text for fans of the franchise, successfully bridging the gap between his role as a rising inspector and his later status as an enforcer.
