Where it came from
Pura Pura Chicketta is a niche manga series authored by Gumisawa, emerging from the experimental landscape of late-20th-century independent Japanese comics. It was created during a period when domestic publishers were increasingly open to surreal, character-driven vignettes that departed from the traditional high-stakes tropes of the mainstream shonen and shojo genres.
The aesthetic of the series is characterized by Gumisawa's minimalist linework, which focuses on expressive character silhouettes and sparse, atmospheric backgrounds. While the series maintains a relatively small cult following, it is recognized by aficionados of alternative manga for its idiosyncratic humor and its commentary on the mundane stresses of contemporary urban life in Japan.
