Report of Entomologist

The Report of the Entomologist by Harvey Adam Surface was published during the early 20th century as part of the formal agricultural bulletins issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. These reports were produced as an essential service to the state's agrarian economy, providing farmers and orchardists with technical insights into insect control, pest identification, and the life cycles of species impacting crops. This specific volume reflects the era's growing professionalization of state-sponsored scientific research and the mandate to document the natural world to protect regional productivity.

The design and content of the report were overseen by H.A. Surface, an influential zoologist and educator who served as the Economic Zoologist for Pennsylvania. His work was characterized by a practical, instructional approach, prioritizing clear categorization and accessible data for a public audience of landowners and botanists. At the time of its release, the report was well-regarded by academic institutions and government agencies for its methodical approach to entomology, earning a place in the libraries of land-grant universities for its contribution to historical agricultural science.
