Rogers on Elections. Vol. 1. Registration ... Seventeenth Edition. By Maurice Powell.

Rogers on Elections originated in the early nineteenth century as a definitive guide to the complex laws governing parliamentary representation in the United Kingdom. First published in 1827 by Francis Newman Rogers, the series was designed to provide legal practitioners, returning officers, and political agents with a reliable reference for navigating the intricacies of voter registration and the regulation of electoral contests following the era of reform.

By the time the seventeenth edition arrived in 1906, edited by Maurice Powell, the work had become an essential institutional fixture. Powell’s contribution focused on refining the sprawling legal precedents and amendments that had accumulated throughout the Victorian period. The volume reflects the technical rigor expected of its time, emphasizing clarity in administrative law and procedural consistency, earning it a reputation as a trusted authority for those managing the mechanics of the democratic process.
