Where it came from
Rokudou no Onna-tachi, or Rokudo's Bad Girls, was written and illustrated by Yuuji Nakamura and serialized in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion from 2016 to 2021. The series emerged as a subversion of the high school delinquent manga genre, focusing on a bullied protagonist who gains the supernatural ability to be adored by bad girls after receiving a mysterious scroll from his grandfather. The narrative blends elements of comedy, romance, and supernatural action, exploring themes of inner growth as the protagonist navigates a world of aggressive, dangerous female characters.
The character designs were crafted by Nakamura to contrast the protagonist's initially weak appearance with the imposing, stylized silhouettes of the female leads. Throughout its five-year run, the series received moderate critical attention for its humor and its unique take on harem-style tropes, eventually leading to a 12-episode anime adaptation produced by Satelight in 2023. The work remains a notable example of late-2010s action-comedy manga that utilized a distinct, energetic visual style to propel its whimsical premise.
