Where it came from
Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin, known in English as Nanana's Buried Treasure, originated as a light novel series written by Kazuma Ootorino with illustrations by Akaringo. It first debuted in 2012 under the Famitsu Bunko imprint, emerging from the popular medium of light novel adventures that blend supernatural elements with mystery tropes. The narrative is centered on the artificial island of Nanae Island and the pursuit of mysterious relics left behind by the ghost of Nanana Ryuugajou.
The series design is firmly rooted in the vibrant, character-driven aesthetic of mid-2010s light novels, prioritizing a mix of high-stakes treasure hunting and lighthearted comedy. Akaringo’s character designs played a significant role in the series' identity, helping it stand out enough to secure a television anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures in 2014. While the series maintains a dedicated following among fans of the genre, it is widely regarded as a niche title within the broader landscape of Japanese publishing.
