Sabikui Bisco

Sabikui Bisco, written by Shinji Cobkubo and illustrated by K Akagishi, began as a Japanese light novel series published by Dengeki Bunko in 2018. Created against a backdrop of post-apocalyptic fiction, the story follows Bisco Akaboshi, a fugitive archer searching for a medicinal mushroom capable of curing a rust-plague that ravages the world. The series gained significant attention for its high-energy, unconventional fantasy setting and the kinetic, bold aesthetic of its illustrations.

The project was envisioned by Cobkubo to blend traditional adventure tropes with a unique, visceral landscape defined by its 'Rust Eater' mechanics. Upon its release, it was well-received by readers for its distinct visual style and fast-paced narrative, eventually earning a prominent place in light novel rankings and leading to a dedicated manga adaptation and an animated television series. The design of the world and characters is frequently noted for its departure from typical high-fantasy norms, favoring a rugged, sun-bleached atmosphere.
